1. October is Fire Safety Month   
The National Fire Protection Association has lots of resources on fire prevention and safety, including how you can get involved with fire safety activities during the month of October.

2. Check out these really cool apps for your mobile device
The American Red Cross has two great apps- “SOS” app for Android® devices and a listing of Red Cross Shelters for iPhone® and iPad® users.  Check out these apps at the American Red Cross website!

3. Don’t forget your medicines!
Not only is October Fire Safety Month, it is also the 26th national Talk About Prescriptions Month.  Now is a great time to speak with your pharmacist and physician about your medications and ask how to store them during an emergency.  Ask about quantities you should have on hand, and how to get prescriptions filled if you run out, or if they are lost or destroyed after a natural disaster.

4. Food safety issues during a natural disaster
In light of all the concerns associated with food safety issues associated with cantaloupes, lettuce, and other foods, now is a good time to learn about food safety issues that can arise after a natural disaster.  Check out the CDC’s website on food safety after an emergency or natural disaster.  Check out this video from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on food safety:
